Is Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures for You?

At Beadnell Family Dentistry, your cosmetic dentist in SW Portland, we strive to provide our patients with the best education and service possible; your health is our priority. We offer many cosmetic dentistry services that can help improve your smile.

Many people think that improving their smile can be costly or take a lot of time, but this type of luxury is possible for many patients. If you want a smile that you are proud of, there are certain things you can do.

A smile that looks healthy and great will not only help you feel better but it can help boost your confidence.

There are a lot of benefits to cosmetic dentistry procedures, however some patients get confused. So we thought we would talk about the procedures here, in this brief explanation of common cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a common procedures that will use a tooth-colored resin to improve a patients smile. The resin is always applied to the tooth, and a light will be used that will harden the material into place, which is where the word “bonding” comes from. Dental bonding is one of the easiest cosmetic dental procedures for our doctor to do, plus it is generally used to repair chipped or cracked teeth, or eliminate certain types of gaps. In some cases it can be used to change the shape of a tooth.

Veneers

Dental veneers are also a common procedure we do in our office. They are a thin, custom created shell that will fit over the front of a tooth’s surface. Veneers are always bonded to the front of the teeth, which can sometimes alter the color, length, shape, and even the size of a patient’s teeth. Veneers are a more conservative method to alternating the color and shape of the patient’s teeth, especially when compared to another procedure like dental crowns. The dental veneer process is most often not reversible.

Crowns

Crowns will help to improve the size, shape and strength of your tooth. Most crowns will last anywhere from 5to 15 years, because they are made from materials that are strong like metal, porcelain, ceramic, or resin. Before a crown is placed in the mouth, the existing tooth will always be filed down; then the crown will be cemented over, this will allow the crown to fully encase the patients tooth.

Orthodontics

This is a term that is most often heard when you think of braces, as it can correct a patient’s teeth that are crooked or misaligned. Braces will correct a patient’s teeth with an applied pressure and steady force on the tooth. This will slowly move the teeth back into a straight position over a period of time. When the teeth shift, the tooth sockets will also begin to shift in shape because of the pressure that is applied. Orthodontic technology has changed dramatically over the past few years. There are new techniques that don’t require metal brackets. This allows for nearly invisible realignment.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a popular procedure to help improve the color of your teeth. It will help to correct years of enamel staining foods and drinks. At our office, we provide a special bleaching agent that we will  place into the clear tray, which will custom fit to your teeth. The whitening agent can help remove stains on your teeth’s enamel. Once your teeth are the preferred brightness, only occasional treatments will be needed to maintain your brilliantly white smile.
